White and coloured noise

An important type of stochastic signals are the so-called white noise signals (or processes). The PSD of a CT white noise process is flat (white) across all frequencies. Thus, the average power associated with the white-noise random process is not finite, i.e., the CT white noise process does not have finite variance and therefore is not physically realizable. Physical systems usually are band-limited and are affected by the noise within this band. Hence, in many kinds of noise analysis bandlimited white noise is used, which is simply the response of an ideal lowpass filter that is excited by white noise.

Theoretical techniques for studying discrete-time linear systems with particular emphasis on the properties and design of sampled data feedback control systems are introduced. This book is intended to be used as a textbook in our MSc and PhD courses. We have tried to balance the broadness and the depth of the material covered in the book.
