Smart City

Climate and energy

Central element of any local sustainable development strategy is the reduction of greenhouse gases in order to reduce the city’s contribution to global climate change. Particularly in the light of global justice and the strive of the global South to enhance its economic and social living conditions, limiting fossil energy use to the carrying capacity of the planet is the crucial challenge of humankind. Key issues on the local level are how to reduce overall energy consumption, and increase the share of renewable energy production.
