This method can be used only if the streamlines over the cylindrical bore are originally straight and parallel, as illustrated in Figure 2.3 – (a). A sharp-edged cylindrical bore must be produced, with a typical diameter of 1 to 2 mm. By reducing the bore diameter, the accuracy of the measurement can be improved (Figure 2.4). However, this raises problems in manufacturing the bore. In addition, the response time of the manometer connected to the tap may increase considerably in the case of bores with a diameter being too small. The pressure tap may be equipped with a chamber for smoothing pressure fluctuations (see later in Figure 2.5).
