Connective tissue (tela connective)

Connective tissues derive from the mesodermal layer of the embryo, and can be found all over the body, since every organ is composed of or ensheathed by, at least some connective tissue. In general, they provide structure and support, often connecting two other types of tissue (e.g. epithelial tissue and muscle) to each other. The term includes several tissues with different properties, according to their various functions (mechanical, nutritional, or protective), but they all share common characteristics.
