Reticular tissue

This type of connective tissue is typical for cytogen organs, such as spleen, bone marrow and lymph nodes. Reticular tissue is relatively rich in cells, while its extracellular matrix contains a three-dimensional network of reticular fibers (see Figure 68.). Specialized fibroblasts called reticular cells produce the fibers and surround them with their cytoplasm. Lymphocytes and macrophages migrate into the spaces between the fibers, where they continue their differentiation.
