Bibliometric studies by Haunschild and others have shown that the emergence of climate change as a new scientific field of research dates from around the 1980s (2016, 3.), although some scientists have published papers on atmospheric science and global warming since the mid-19th century (Black, 2013). However, it was only from the end of the 1980s onward that the attention of daily and weekly newspapers turned in a detectable way towards climate change – including global warming and greenhouse effect – around the same time as the proliferation of these keywords in the Google Books English-language database began (Google, 2023). The aim of this study is to map the earliest micro-contexts of the terms "climate change" and "climate modification" in Hungarian-language print media products, covering the then presumed causes of these phenomena and determining the attitudes of the authors of the articles, based on the "Six Americas" analytical framework by Leiserowitz et al (2022).
