As both films focus on popular
music, it is expected that the realia connected to music (like bands
and performers), as well as other famous people (like politicians)
are borrowed unchanged (the most “foreignising” translation method)
– as the context provides sufficient information. But due to the fact
that the Anglo-Saxon culture is better known in Hungary than Hungarian
culture in the Anglo-Saxon world, more domesticating changes are expected:
addition or paraphrase.

With
the English language behaving as a lingua franca, it is expectable
that more flexibility will be found when encountering Anglo-Saxon
realia than in the case of Hungarian culture-specific items. With
the dominance of Hollywood and English-language films in general,
it is natural that viewers have got used to both the language and
the realia connected to them. As Turner puts it, “[t]here is a high
degree of cross-cultural coding where audiences agree to accept an
imported system of meaning for the purposes of enjoying the film”
(Turner 1993:
79). Based on the existing scholarship in the field of our scrutiny
we have formulated the following hypotheses:

- In HU2EN translation, domesticating methods will predominate.
- In the case of proper nouns, the proportion of borrowing will be significantly higher than that of common nouns or other parts of speech.
- In common nouns, foreignisation will be dominant in both directions of translation.
