The study was carried out in the Hungarian university context between September 2020 and May 2021. Altogether 12 students participated in the study, each of them purposively recruited (Dörnyei, 2007) combined with snowball sampling. Candidates were sought with the help of personal recommendations as well as with the help of participating teachers of the instructor interview study. Throughout the country, heads of department were kindly asked to share the call for participation with their students. In some cases, participants themselves recommended further interview informants among their peers at the end of the interviews. Although there were no strict participation criteria, during the icebreaker stage of the interviews the researcher made sure that the informants are indeed experts of technology inclusion into their learning (and even teaching or tutoring) processes. Table 12 introduces the participants of the study by pseudonyms, as well as listing their age, the programs they are enrolled in and the university where they studied at when the interviews were conducted.

Out of the 12 participants, Diána, Flóra and Sándor (pseudonyms) were not English Studies or EFL teacher education majors, but their ideas proved to be invaluable additions of the data collected for this study. Diána took part in a 1-year special MA programme called Instruction of EFL, which would give her a master’s degree with which she could teach EFL in language schools or for private institutions. Flóra was enrolled in an Applied Linguistics master’s programme with the intention of applying for an applied linguistics or language pedagogy PhD programme in the future and had professional experience in delivering academic presentations and she already had an accepted scholarly publication she co-authored with her thesis supervisor. Sándor was writing his BA thesis in a topic closely linked to language pedagogy and wished to enrol in the Instruction of EFL MA programme. He also had massive private teaching experience.
