Stroop and VF in making predictions

In the bilingual memory the language processing is non-selective (de Bot, 2004), thus both languages are active and simultaneously activated in the memory. Evidence of the model are the ease of code-mixing and switching, and the interlingual errors. Important factors are the language proficiency, levels of language immersion and willingness to communicate. Besides, there are some latent aspects to consider, e.g., the cognate effect by which bilinguals produce/recognise cognates faster than non-cognates. Lexical decision tasks are to measure reaction time, from which linguists can compare access times to L1 and L2 lexicons and verify selective or non-selective access models. Addressing the structure of the multilingual mental lexicon or the process of multilingual non-selective access is well illustrated by Tytus’s (2018) experimental investigation by using ST interference and picture naming tasks, in which the interaction and interference patterns were to explore the word processing time differences between multiple languages in memory. The author examined different languages, like German as L1, English as L2 and French as L3 from which French was considered as the lowest proficiency. In the ST the authors used the full range of focal colours by which within and between language conditions were examined. The language of the stimuli was kept constant and between languages the Stroop was at the estimated 75% of the size of the within language effect (e.g., MacLeod, 1991). More interference was anticipated between the L1 and L2 language pair, thereby reflecting the strength of co-activation of the three languages, which relates directly to levels of the language proficiency, i.e., more interference equals higher proficiency. After all, the author stated that the language proficiency was a good predictor for the ST results.

A Pannon Egyetem Humántudományi Kara a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Veszprémi Területi Bizottsága Nyelv- és Irodalomtudományi Szakbizottságával közösen adott otthont 2021. november 8–9-én a Magyar Tudomány Ünnepe 2021 tiszteletére rendezett „Humán tudományok: jövőbe vezető utak” elnevezésű kétnapos nemzetközi tudományos konferenciának. A Magyar Tudományos Akadémia által minden év novemberében megrendezett Magyar Tudomány Ünnepe 2021. évi mottója „Tudomány: iránytű az élhető jövőhöz”. A Pannon Egyetem Humántudományi Kara konferenciájával szervesen illeszkedett az országos programsorozathoz. A Kar tudományos konferenciája ezen központi gondolat köré szerveződött, kiemelve a tudomány jövőformáló szerepét. Az elhangzott előadások megmutatták, hogy a nyelv-, az irodalom- és a kultúratudomány, valamint a nevelés- és a társadalomtudomány mely területeken haladta meg korábbi eredményeit, azok mennyire váltak a tudomány jövőt formáló értékekeivé. A kutatók számára a jövőben is adott a fejlődés folyamatos fenntarthatóságának lehetősége és újabb tudományos eredmények elérése, formálva az emberek gondolkodásmódjának megváltoztatásával jövőbeni életünket. A több szekcióban – 1) Nyelvtudományi, 2) Irodalom- és kultúratudományi, 3) Társadalomtudományi, 4) Neveléstudományi – elhangzott 24 hazai és külföldi kutató előadása mellett külön szekcióban 15 előadással helyet kaptak a Többnyelvűségi Nyelvtudományi Doktori Iskola doktoranduszhallgatóinak témához kapcsolódó kutatási eredményei is. Jelen tanulmánykötet nem a konferencia összefoglaló köteteként szolgál, hanem az elhangzott szerteágazó kutatási témák azóta tovább érlelt gondolatainak összegzésére vállalkozik. A kötet betekintést enged a Humántudományi Kar Intézeteiben folyó jövőformáló kutatómunkába, amelyet a különböző tudományágak, mint a nyelv-, az irodalom- és a kultúratudomány, valamint a társadalom- és a neveléstudomány egymásmellettisége és egymáshoz kapcsolódása jellemez. A tanulmányok megmutatják a különböző diszciplínák jövőformáló és így az egyes tudományterületek fejlődését előrevetítő erejét.
