In this section, a somewhat distinct practical question will be addressed from a theoretical perspective - namely, the development of a new bibliographic and reference system, and the broader problem of citation and source attribution. These are usually predetermined by publishers and journals; . however, in the case of research, it is not known in advance which publisher will be the final destination, and the source attribution and reference habits of the Hungarian legal scene are formally divergent and cannot be linked to foreign reference systems, which also do not provide answers to all emerging problems. All this provides a basis for the creation and presentation of an ideal reference system. The reference system below attempts to answer theoretical questions, especially with regard to the statements made above. It is advisable to use a simplified bibliographic description, which usually contains five basic pieces of information: the author’s name, the title of the book (source), the place of publication, the name of the publisher, and the year of publication. According to the Hungarian source, the name of the publisher may be omitted,1 while the Anglo-Saxon practice, due to the presence of global publishers with multiple (many) headquarters, includes the place of publication (which can often be 3-10 place names).2 The Anglo-Saxon solution was born of the constraints of corporate organisation, but the science of bibliography cannot implement this, and the problem remains unsolved.
| 1 | However, according to Eco, “It is a disgusting thing if they tell you where the book was published, but do not tell you which publisher. In the same passage, he gives a vivid example of the errors that a poorly published bibliographic description leads to.” Eco (1991) op. cit. 84-85. (The author’s own translation from the Hungarian version of the volume). |
