8.6.5.1.General rules of citations

Jegyzet elhelyezéséhez, kérjük, lépj be.!

Cite sources cited in the text with an accurate bibliographic description and a footnote with page numbers after each idea that comes from or is based on the source. Also, pay attention to the accuracy of the bibliographic descriptions.

When first cited, the source should be included in the footnote in full, along with the cited page number(s) (footnote number), in the same way as the examples below. Several (numerous) adequate sources can be included in a footnote on the same topic. However, we should avoid citing several works by an author written in the same year in one footnote, as we refer back to the source by footnote number. (Many English-language legal volumes mix simple author/footnote citations and author/footnote/short title citations.) In the book, a short title should also refer to the source in addition to the author’s name when making a remote reference.

Sources should only be cited in footnotes, not in the main text in parentheses, abbreviated (author’s name + year). The two citation forms cannot be mixed, legal science accepts footnotes, and most legal monographs are written and produced this way.

We repeatedly establish the following. There is a comma after the author’s name and before the title of the work. In the case of multiple authors, there is a comma between the names of the authors (editors). (However, see the typical example of three editors (subsection 4.1.1).

In the names of the authors (before or after their names) the title dr. jur. or other professional doctorate title; PhD. or candidate (CSc.) degree; habilitation doctor/doctor habilitatis (Dr. hab.); also the title of university professor (Prof. Dr.); Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, or Doctor of Science (both abbreviated as DSc.); and the corresponding or ordinary (full) membership of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (O.M. HAS; C.M. HAS) are not necessary, even if any of these are included in the author’s name in the work. (The so-called ‘doctorate’ phenomenon). Hungarian legal monographs and textbooks are inconsistent in this regard. In order to avoid such problems, we avoid indicating the title in the name/bibliographic description.
