Management trust and encouragement

Employees feel the trust and encouragement of the company management to carry out innovative activities. The company management's motto is: faith and trust in employees! In addition to the rather monotonous and highly attentive production tasks, they try to enable them to eliminate certain types of errors and come up with innovative solutions. They strive to encourage internal motivation to come up with something new. This is also an important motivational factor in retaining employees and engineers. It is a deal in which the employee gives and receives at the same time. They can develop and suggest ideas that make their work more interesting, while also making production easier and smoother.
Understanding customer needs and channelling them is key. Melecs has many different types of customers. Some understand product development, while others send product descriptions but do not have anyone who understands development. There is also a type where there is an employee/manager at the customer who understands development so well that they can be convinced of a better solution than the one specified in the issued specifications.
They consider it ideal if the customer is involved in the development, as then they are a true partner. However, this does not happen overnight. It requires the right attitude, intuition and socialisation. They invest a lot of energy in building relationships and want to understand what we are based on. When working with their customers, they do not accept the customer's specifications as a given, but discuss them repeatedly and make suggestions. They try to get the experts to talk to each other, not just the project managers, so that they can clarify all critical technical issues directly with each other.
Based on experience, they know and feel how far they can go with technical issues with each customer. They consider it fundamental that specifications can be changed, but that there must be constant communication and escalation to get the development proposal accepted. A real business relationship with a partner or customer is not just about delivering the product specified in the offer. Thanks to their openness and attitude, they ensure that the customer knows who to turn to if they have a problem. This is a process that can be learned; all it takes is daring to ask questions and communicate. Technical drawings and specifications can cause errors because they are not always clear. An important element of corporate culture is encouraging employees to communicate; it is worth writing an email or calling the person requesting the quote. The task of asking questions has to be taken on, and even if no answer is given, it needs to be followed up.
One criterion for the success of development proposals is that employees are willing to go and ask questions of customers and managers. Communicating proposals and innovative solutions to problems that arise is a major strength of the engineering team.

The aim of the book "Innovation and Excellence" is to inspire and encourage company leaders, managers, and experts to initiate and implement innovation transformations with the help of professional literature and corporate case studies. Another important goal is to help develop the innovation capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises in particular by sharing simple, proven management methods that can be tested in practice.

The first part of the volume reviews the factors of corporate excellence and success, then highlights the possible sources of innovation, with a focus on the role of users and employees. The empirical section presents a detailed description of the supportive role of the workplace environment and creative working conditions based on corporate case studies (AUDI, BOSCH, MELECS). The volume concludes with a description of selected tested practical methods and management techniques that readers can try out in their own businesses.
