Innovation and excellence

Management methods for innovation transformation

Global automotive patents from Budapest1

Artificial intelligence is also the basis for a traffic prediction application recently patented by Budapest engineers, which is considered a significant achievement on a global scale and uses sensors to improve vehicle safety. The application increases the prediction of events occurring while driving to 5.3 seconds, compared to the previous industry benchmark of one second. This means that with Bosch's help, drivers have more than five times as much time to prepare for unexpected traffic events than before. The new application predicts expected events with 97 per cent accuracy, modelling the movements of surrounding vehicles and pedestrians. Engineers developed the application based on the operating principle of mobile phone text recognition technology and building on artificial intelligence.
The Bosch team in Budapest is also at the forefront of developments in vehicle safety in other areas, many of which drivers already encounter in their everyday lives. Among the technologies visible to drivers, they are also involved in the development of lane departure warning, lane detection, adaptive cruise control (ACC), steering systems, parking functions and multimedia devices. They are also working on vehicle safety systems (Chassis Systems Control) such as traffic sign and pedestrian recognition. In addition, they are working on technologies that remain hidden from drivers, such as electronic sensors and actuators, as well as acceleration sensors.
One of the centre's newest areas of development is drive technologies that significantly reduce emissions, fuel cells and 48 V mild hybrid systems. These can play an important role in the automotive industry as transitional technologies until purely electric vehicles become widespread.
