Management methods for innovation transformation
Corporate practices that encourage innovation
In addition to establishing frameworks, the company's management encourages innovative behaviour among its employees in a number of ways and techniques:

regularly defines innovation challenges at company and business unit level

announces and rewards innovation idea competitions,
-
communicates inspiring news and stories to development staff in the form of newsletters, and
-
helps to develop business models for development ideas through innovation training courses and workshops.
The innovative activities of development staff are rewarded at a large-scale gala, which provides significant recognition and motivation for employees and sets an example for others to follow. The award is not primarily a monetary reward, but rather a benefit that allows the development team to go somewhere together. Employees who submit patents are rewarded separately and, in addition to the "Inventor of the Year" award, receive a material reward, such as an exclusive watch.
It is very helpful for development staff to have a dedicated colleague within the company to whom they can turn with their development ideas or intellectual creations and receive practical suggestions for their utilisation. This innovation coach can be a great help in shaping the proposal into a project and presenting it to management. It is even conceivable that a smaller company could train and employ such an innovation mentor to support the innovation proposals of its employees. In addition, it is of course important that someone can support developers in innovation methodology, business model development, or even market research and competitor analysis.
A physical and virtual wall of fame showcasing successful and unsuccessful projects and idea generators, as well as internal company websites that briefly present innovative products and services that have passed the incubation phase and been launched on the market, can also encourage innovation. It is a particular advantage if the developers' contact details are also provided, as this allows internal company staff to contact them and ask for advice.
New types of creative workspaces designed in line with Bosch's "New Way of Working" approach can also provide significant motivation and inspiration for developers if the community spaces in the development department are designed in accordance with this principle. In addition to office spaces, the development centre has quiet zones for concentrated work, stylish meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces. There is a need for rooms where developers are not disturbed, where they can work together, brainstorm and discuss projects.
Similar creative, inspiring spaces are being created not only in the development centre, but also in the production plants, encouraging production engineers and colleagues working with the machines to think more thoroughly about their development proposals and discuss them with each other.

The aim of the book "Innovation and Excellence" is to inspire and encourage company leaders, managers, and experts to initiate and implement innovation transformations with the help of professional literature and corporate case studies. Another important goal is to help develop the innovation capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises in particular by sharing simple, proven management methods that can be tested in practice. The first part of the volume reviews the factors of corporate excellence and success, then highlights the possible sources of innovation, with a focus on the role of users and employees. The empirical section presents a detailed description of the supportive role of the workplace environment and creative working conditions based on corporate case studies (AUDI, BOSCH, MELECS). The volume concludes with a description of selected tested practical methods and management techniques that readers can try out in their own businesses.
