Innovation and excellence

Management methods for innovation transformation

Idea competitions – innovation challenges

Most companies are not short of development ideas; in fact, in some large companies, hundreds of ideas can get stuck between the idea generators and the decision-makers. In such cases, the idea generators are disappointed that they do not receive adequate feedback and opportunities to implement their minor or even groundbreaking development proposals. It is a serious sign for innovative employees if they do not receive support for the development of their ideas, and in such cases they may start to wonder whether they are working for the right organisation. This is why it is important to manage employee ideas professionally and, subsequently, to introduce an idea management system.
We would like to point out here that management should not focus on the quantity of ideas, but on their handling and on supporting the implementation of selected development proposals. In contrast, many companies place too much emphasis on generating ideas, but do not pay enough attention to selecting the best ones and developing them further. Brainstorming does not become a waste of time if these two aspects are taken into account in idea management.
Brainstorming is the creative process of generating, developing and communicating ideas. It is important to note that development ideas do not have to be completely new. Ideas can be generated to solve specific company problems and challenges, to come up with new methods for implementing a solution, or even to increase employee satisfaction. Consequently, ideation is not just a one-off brainstorming session. The ideation process can be divided into three stages: idea generation, selection and development.
