A Semmelweis Egyetem Magatartástudományi Intézetének tudományos iskolája által, Kopp Mária, Kovács Mónika Erika szerkesztésével létrehozott, a magyar népesség életminőségét és egészségét bemutató monográfiája a XXI. század orvosa, egészségügyi szakembere, döntéshozói, sőt minden polgára számára igen fontos és időszerű témával foglalkozik, az egészéggel, betegségekkel kapcsolatos életminőség kérdésével. A monográfia, mely az intézet több mint 10 éves kutatási munkásságát öleli fel, kiegészítve azt a témával kapcsolatos nemzetközi eredményekkel, egyedülálló és nélkülözhetetlen mű a hazai szakirodalomban. A majd ötven szerzős monográfiában bemutatásra kerülő eredmények zöme a Hungarostudy 2002 országos, a magyar felnőtt lakosságra életkor, nem és településnagyság szerint reprezentatív egészségfelmérésen alapul. Ugyanakkor számos tényező esetében az eredmények a két korábbi 1988-as és 1995-ös vizsgálat adataival is kiegészülnek, így összehasonlításra, longitudinális összefüggések vizsgálatára is lehetőség nyílik. Ez az elmúlt két évtizedben lejátszódó gyors társadalmi változások hatásainak értékelése szempontjából különös jelentőséggel bír. Amíg a három nagy egészségfelmérés bepillantást nyújt az életminőség- és egészségmutatók és azok sokrétű – többváltozós összefüggéseinek társadalmi – makroszintű vizsgálatára alkalmas, addig az egyes rétegek és problémakörökre jellemző specifikus, mélyebb – mikroszintű – összefüggések elemzésére további kiegészítő vizsgálatok szükségesek. A monográfia külön erőssége, hogy számos fejezetben a tudományos iskola kutatói bemutatják az adott témában „mélyfúrás” jelleggel végzett a további vizsgálataikat is. Ajánljuk tehát a könyvet az egészségügy, pszichológia, szociológia, antropológia, bioetika, pedagógia, közgazdaság- és politikai tudomány területén dolgozó – klinikai, kutató és oktató munkát végző és döntéshozó – szakembernek. Hasznos információval szolgálhat minden olyan olvasó számára, aki az életminőség fogalmát, indikátorait, meghatározóit szeretné megismerni, munkájában felhasználni, s kiváncsi a magyar lakosság életminőségére az ezredfordulón.
