Decision Making Methods in Transportation

Selecting the entering basic variable

To introduce the iterations steps of the network simplex method, it is necessary to remember that the first step of the standard simplex method is the selection of the entering basic variable from the set of non-basic variables. During the selection process, we have to find the variable whose unit change results in the most significant changes in the value of the objective function (Z) (Hillier and Lieberman 2001d). To describe the method, two theorems must be mentioned.
