Muscular Tissue

Muscular tissue is originated from the mesodermal germ layer and characterized by its contractility. It is composed of highly differentiated cells that contain large amount of specially organized cytoskeletal proteins – so called motility proteins – in their cytoplasm. The structure-function relationship – due to interactions of these proteins – is such that they are able to turn chemical energy into mechanical work, so their contractile activity can produce movement. All active supracellular movement within the organs and the body as a whole depend on muscular tissue.
