Product Market Matrix

The product market matrix provides the simplest answer to the basic strategic question of what kind of customer needs the company meets. In order for the matrix to be manageable, both the customers and the products and services aimed at satisfying the customer’s needs must be grouped, so-called segments must be formed. Grouping (segmentation) is one of the most demanding skills in the whole strategic planning process. Correct segmentation provides the opportunity to focus on the most strategically important areas. Elements of the matrix can be assigned to segment volume, revenue, cost, and other data. In the strategy-making process, the definitions of the product market matrix are followed by focusing on key segments followed by analysis and positioning.
