Management Consultancy in Central and Eastern Europe

Consultancy in a Global Context

Methods of Leadership Development

This chapter explores the topic of “process consulting” as the most accessible training approach to the concept of consulting and presents some important aspects of the utility of methods. The versatility of the activity does not allow for a full presentation, but novel approaches not previously published will also be mentioned in this chapter. The concept of training as a tool for leadership development has been supplemented and transformed in recent decades. New methods have emerged that support personal and interpersonal leadership development. These include coaching and its various approaches, such as Gestalt-based leadership development, which is partly a grouping exercise (cf. training grouping). We also highlight how the acceptance and embeddedness of training consulting have changed. In this respect, the market is much more accepting and aware of this training methodology than in the previous period. Tendering activity, which has become a regular feature since the EU accession in 2004, has helped a lot, making leadership training part of projects in almost all calls for proposals. After the accession to the EU, a significant part of the convergence programs was also directed towards the development of competencies and thus the wider dissemination of the training methodology.
