Management Consultancy in Central and Eastern Europe

Consultancy in a Global Context

Regional Differences

For a long time, consulting has been a privilege for Americans and Western Europeans. For the last few years, except for the projects supported by international financial institutions and organizations – disregarding the former English colonies Australia and New Zealand – there were not many business opportunities for external consultants in Asia. In this environment, it was for a long time unacceptable to use external experts to solve corporate problems. Japanese companies first used advisors to support their foreign expansion. However, it should also be borne in mind that in Japan, efficiency improvement (e.g., kaizen) and quality work (e.g., TQM) have a great tradition, which has been greatly incentivized by central and corporate tools. Today, the situation described above has changed significantly. Local and foreign advisors are starting to integrate into the everyday life of Japanese companies. In other parts of Asia, consulting is in an initial phase, but the number of newly formed advisory companies is growing very fast.
