Consultancy in a Global Context

Technologies to Help Identify a Knowledge Element (Knowledge Sources)

Presently as IT solutions are ubiquitous, they are integrated into our everyday tools, and uniform conceptual structures, terminologies, taxonomies, and ontologies for the knowledge elements they use are becoming increasingly important. Until there is no unified conceptual structure for managing embedded knowledge, there is a risk of a lack of a “common language” and a common conceptual framework. In order to be able to analyze and manage emerging knowledge management problems, it is useful to develop a kind of knowledge repository. This knowledge repository is most often an ontology, a data warehouse, a document repository, or a content management system whose purpose is generally to record and pre-process data and facts. Data warehouses, document repositories and content management systems provide the necessary input for knowledge extraction and provide the basis for analytic exploitation systems. Categorization and classification technologies are of decisive importance for the interpretation and search of knowledge elements. Grouping or otherwise organizing knowledge elements (or their carriers) into a conceptual graph can be done by taxonomy or ontology. Taxonomies provide a classification of categories of knowledge while ontologies describe the conceptual structure of a special field in a knowledge management context.
