Before the Political Change of the Regime

In Hungary, in the early 1910’s, the first papers on management consulting were published about ways of efficiency increase, based on Taylor’s scientific management theory. Between World War I and World War II, the Hungarian economy as well as its management consulting industry followed the strong rationalization trend of Germany and Austria. The economy was dominated by the large Hungarian owned industrial factories. Numerous consulting companies were founded focusing on manufacturing efficiency, office management and administration. In these years, IBM entered Hungary, and uniquely was able to avoid the absolute state-controlled status during the years of socialism.
