Specialized connective tissues

Blood is a unique type of connective tissue with a liquid extracellular matrix. Like all other connective tissues, it consists of cells and an extracellular matrix. Matrix contains and an amorphous ground substance, and also, while normally no fibers are present, fibrinogen protein can form fibers in the process of blood clotting. Extracellular matrix of blood is called blood plasma.
