Market activities of domestic family-run SMEs is primarily characterized by them starting and continuing operations without market research and market analysis in many cases. Thus, accurate knowledge of their customers and their needs tend not to be located on a precise basis. Because most of such firms tend to strive for technological excellence and tend to operate in markets with few competitors or in niche markets, there is often an inward focus. In the short term this is illusory in that it may not appear problematic in marketing terms. Nonetheless, multinational firms engaged in exporting activities may wish to acquire sufficiently growth-oriented domestic SME suppliers regardless of whether they are family- or non-family-owned (Drótos, Wieszt, 2018).
