A viselkedési közgazdaságtan napjaink egyik legdinamikusabban fejlődő közgazdasági szakterülete, amely elsősorban a gazdasági aktorok nem racionális döntéseit és viselkedését vizsgálja.

A viselkedési közgazdaságtani ismeretek, kutatási eredmények azonban nemcsak e terület kutatói számára lehetnek érdekesek és hasznosak: alkalmazásuk a vállalatok, a pénzintézetek és a gazdaságpolitikai döntéshozók számára is előnyös lehet.

Ez a könyv egyrészt a viselkedési közgazdaságtan szemléletmódját, kutatási fókuszait és irányait közvetíti, másrészt néhány specifikus, de releváns és aktuális tématerületen keresztül mutatja be az egyének döntési anomáliáit és viselkedésformáit, azok lehetséges okaival, formáival és hatásával együtt. Túl azon, hogy felvázolja a viselkedési közgazdaságtan fejlődéstörténetét és a neoklasszikus közgazdaságtanhoz való viszonyát, általános képet ad arról is, hogy miért térnek el az egyének a neoklasszikus közgazdaságtan által feltételezett racionális döntéshozataltól, és mi okból merülhetnek fel döntési anomáliák. Ezenkívül e kötet néhány specifikus tématerület is érint, például a relatív fogyasztást, az intertemporális döntések komplexitását, a személyes pénzügyek viselkedési közgazdaságtani aspektusait, valamint a diszkontált hasznossági modell anomáliáit és olyan viselkedési vonásokat, mint például a jelen felé torzítás.
