One of the rapidly developing areas of applied linguistics is translation research. Volume 21 of our monograph series also deals with this area, examining the development of translation and post-editing competence of translation trainees within the framework of a longitudinal study. The author, Márta Lesznyák, is a university lecturer whose research topic is translation competence, and more recently post-editing competence and its cognitive aspects, as well as the development and improvement of this competence.

The book is unique in that it presents a longitudinal study, which is rare in translation research. The author examines the translation and post-editing performance of a total of 31 students in terms of their source language proficiency, their knowledge of the given field, and their beliefs about translation. In addition, the students’ experiences related to the translation and post-editing process are also analyzed, in addition to the time spent on translation and post-editing, and the number of errors in the target language text. The study presented in the volume addresses a very timely topic in an exceptionally thorough and comprehensive manner.
