A könyv megszületését alapvetően az indokolta, hogy – a korábbi kötetekhez hasonló formában és részletezettséggel – bemutassa azokat az agrárgazdasági témákat, amelyekre a két korábbi kötetben már nem volt mód (vagy időközben érdemi változások történtek az adott területen), de a témához történő kapcsolódásuk vitathatatlan. Ennek során, három témakörbe rendezve, elemzi a globális és lokális élelmiszerláncokat, az élelmiszer-termelés és -fogyasztás ökonómiáját, az élelmiszerpiacokat és árakat, az élelmiszer-kereskedelmet (az agrárgazdaság felépítése és működése); a fenntarthatóság és az agrár-környezetvédelem összefüggéseit, az élelmezés- és élelmiszer-biztonság aktuális helyzetét, az élelmiszer-pazarlást, a klímaváltozás hatásait a mezőgazdaságra, és a generációváltást (fenntarthatósági kihívások az agrárgazdaságban); valamint az agrárpolitikát, a vidékfejlesztést, a körforgásos biomassza alapú gazdaságot (fenntartható(bb) agrárgazdaság eszközei). A szerzők célja továbbra is az volt, hogy az egyes témák kapcsán megkönnyítsék mind az oktatók, mind a hallgatók munkáját. Az egyes fejezetek önmagukban is megállnak, illetve alkalmasak arra, hogy kitöltsenek egy előadást. Emellett a hallgatói megértést továbbra is segíti a fejezetek végén megtalálható összefoglalás és az ismétlő kérdések. Ebben bízva ajánljuk a tankönyvet a számukra és reméljük, hogy legalább olyan hasznosnak találják, mint az első két kötetet.
