When the bound is worse than the best feasible solution so far

As the optimal solution of the example is reached, the third type of fathoming process has to be applied. When x4 is set to 0, then an optimal binary solution occurs with Z*=14. In this case, finally the route related to the subproblem x3=0 can also be fathomed, since the previously defined upper bound of the subproblem is 13, while the new value of the objective function is Z*=14. Accordingly, the optimal solution has been reached (Figure 52).
