4.2. Farkas József (ed.): Állattenyésztési szótár [Dictionary of Animal Breeding]. Mezőgazda Kiadó, Budapest, 2005, 730 p.

This five-language dictionary contains 10,840 entries in Hungarian, English, French, German and Russian. It does not contain Latin terms. With regard to content, the dictionary is accurate; nevertheless, as far as the interpretation of taxonomic categories is concerned, there are some contradictions. For example:
fajtaváltozat	E: variety
Description of the mistake: A thing can be either a “fajta” (“cultivar”) or a “változat” (“variety”); it cannot be both at the same time. (See the comment on “fajta” above.) Correctly:
változat	E: variety

fajtatulajdonság	E: character of species F: caractère racial D: Sorteneigenschaft, Rasseneigenschaft P: поро’дные ка’чества
Description of the mistake: As the Hungarian equivalent of “species” is “faj” and not “fajta”, the word “fajtatulajdonság” cannot be translated into English as “character of species”. In livestock farming, the English equivalent of “fajta” is “breed”. “Character” is better translated as “jelleg” instead of “tulajdonság”; for this reason, the Hungarian equivalent of “character of breed” is “fajtajelleg”. Correctly:
fajtatulajdonság	E: breed characteristics

fajta	E: sort; kind
	F: race
	D: Rasse, Sorte
Description of the mistake: In livestock farming, the English term for “fajta” is “breed”; “sort” and “kind”, on the other hand, may be rendered as “féleség”. These are not equivalents of the term “breed”. Correctly:
fajta	E: breed

The present volume introduces us in the history of Hungarian mono-, bi-, and multilingual LSP lexicography, its theoretical evolution, outlines its broader and narrower fields of research and the tasks ahead. Moreover, the studies have undertaken to investigate and give an account of the history of lexicography covering various special fields and providing a critical analysis of the dictionaries involved. Last but not least, the new technology extending the concept of LSP lexicography is presented.

A kötet bevezet bennünket a magyar egy-, két- és többnyelvű szaklexikográfia történetébe, elméletének kibontakozásába, vázolja szűkebb és tágabb kutatási területeit és megvalósítandó feladatait. A tanulmányok ezen túlmenően felvállalták néhány kiemelt szakterület szótártörténetének kikutatását, bemutatását, a felkutatott szótárak kritikai elemzését, de sor kerül az új technológia bemutatására és ezáltal a szaklexikográfia fogalmának kitágítására is.
