Improving the Organizational Structure

Examining and transforming organizational structure was a classic area of general management consulting. Consultants prepared organizational charts, operating charts, organizational and operating policies for their clients. Today’s strategic consulting is more about reorganization consulting, during which the organization is being analyzed in more detail, problems are identified and suggestions for solutions are worked out. The analysis of the organizational structure serves the purpose of enabling the consultant to determine how well the existing organization is capable of implementing the planned strategy. The analysis of the organizational structure focuses, on the one hand, on the division of tasks and responsibilities, and on the other hand, on the mapping of the characteristics arising from the organizational structure. Next, it can be examined whether the existing structure is strategically suitable for the tasks to be performed, whether the structure is in line with the strategy, what the strong and weak points of the organizational structure are and what organizational and structural changes can be proposed.
