Helsinki Guggenheim Museum

The city of Helsinki also asked the Solomon Guggenheim Foundation in New York to develop a similar model to the Bilbao construction. The City Council voted down the considerable investment in the first round, albeit by a small majority, but the process continued as the proposal was reformulated and the City of Helsinki agreed to build a new museum on the waterfront in the city center, where there was previously a car park.

Cultural tourism and creative tourism are the most dynamically expanding areas of the tourism sector. In the theoretical chapter we review the definition of the two trends, the characteristics of the demand and supply side and clarify the concept of a cultural tourism product. We overview the development strategies that have defined the global museum market in recent decades and discuss the role of museums in the revitalization efforts of cities.
