Cultural, creative and culinary tourism

Breweries and distilleries

Beer tourism is considered an emerging niche tourism market. Beer tourism, a subcategory of beverage tourism, is defined as travels resulting when a guest’s main motivation to travel is to visit a brewery, beer festival or beer show to experience the brewing process or tasting of beers (Plummer et al. 2005). According to Bujdosó and Szűcs (2012), the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, the Baltic States, and Ireland are outstanding destinations for beer tourists in Europe. By definition, beer tourists are motivated not only by drinking beer. Beer itself is obviously important, but its importance lays in the uniqueness and individuality of the beer and the brewery visited (Photo 3). Suppliers attempting to attract beer tourist to a given area should focus on the unique character of the beer offerings they have and provide information about the brewing process as well the history of the beer and brewery (Francioni–Byrd 2016).

We overview the development strategies that have defined the global museum market in recent decades and discuss the role of museums in the revitalization efforts of cities.
