Cultural, creative and culinary tourism

International restaurant guides

Tourists in general are unlikely to want to spend much of their leisure time to seek out practical details to get along in their new environment during their stays. However, without the information and knowledge, their holiday would be less fluent and satisfactory. During the trips, a significant part of the tourists turns to printed materials and books. Restaurant guides can be considered as a subtype of guidebooks that provide useful information especially for tourists interested in gastronomic experiences. Restaurant guides are mainly based on complex rating systems. Establishments have to meet a list of criteria and certain standards in order to receive a given classification – such as stars in Michelin Guide or chef’s hat symbols in Gault&Millau Guide. Being a classified restaurant in gastronomy sector is very important in terms of prestige, attesting to the quality of restaurant offerings while also significantly influencing the potential to visit.

Cultural tourism and creative tourism are the most dynamically expanding areas of the tourism sector. In the theoretical chapter we review the definition of the two trends, the characteristics of the demand and supply side and clarify the concept of a cultural tourism product. We overview the development strategies that have defined the global museum market in recent decades and discuss the role of museums in the revitalization efforts of cities. You can also get a deeper insight in the operation of colourful science and transport museums. Afterwards, culinary tourism chapters examine consumer behaviour in food tourism and its link to social media which is followed by an overview on the supply side, a new typology of attractions in culinary tourism.
