Genetic background of gynecological diseases

Rare gynecological diseases with genetic origin

Significance and cytogenetic causes of premature ovarian insufficiency

Today, women's family planning intentions are postponed, and it is common for the conditions for a woman to have a child to be created only later. Fortunately, in the majority of cases, it is still possible to have a pregnancy at this time - taking into account the increased genetic risk. However, this later childbearing may become impossible if the ovaries are exhausted early. In this case, the woman's ovaries are depleted prematurely and she is no longer able to conceive either spontaneously or by assisted reproduction. In the past, such complaints were not always a problem, as pregnancies were undertaken earlier, so it was often only after successful pregnancies and births that ovarian failure occurred. In such cases, the ovarian depletion has only appeared as menopause, a cessation of bleeding observed earlier than normal. In our country and in Western European countries, the aging of the population is a problem. Childbearing is declining and birth statistics report worsening outcomes. Therefore, any procedure that can help increase reproduction rates should be treated as an important public health issue. It would be particularly important in cases where early ovarian depletion is expected, to detect this risk factor before ovarian failure. Previous diagnostic procedures could only confirm the fact of ovarian failure, and in such cases pregnancy could not be undertaken except by possible egg donation. However, by anticipating early ovarian depletion, a woman and her caregivers can prepare in advance and, if appropriate, use other interventions to help achieve the desired pregnancy before the ovaries stop working.

Our book was written with the intention of filling a gap. It is the work of specialists - university lecturers, researchers, clinicians - who come across the described symptoms in their daily practice.

Many previously published publications deal with the gynecological pathologies discussed in the volume, but from the perspective of genetics as an etiological factor, focusing on the genetic background of pathological conditions and women's diseases, no book has yet been published. Nowadays, science is developing rapidly, and almost all diseases are subjected to genetic testing during research. For this reason, only those pathologies will be presented for which the tests so far have clearly confirmed the genetic background, that is, those pathologies for which the possibility of a genetic cause has arisen, but cannot yet be clearly proven, do not form the material of the book.

We recommend the book primarily to health professionals, geneticists, obstetricians and gynecologists, pedoatric gynecologists, and pediatricians, and those preparing for special exams. Medical students and midwifery students interested in the topic can find important information in it, and it can also be useful for "non-specialists".
