Business Management

Starting up, Growth, Development

Born global enterprises

When studying the internationalization of SMEs and examining its causes and effects, the role of innovation should not be overlooked. In recent years, significant theoretical and empirical progress has been made in this field. Relatively heterogeneous enterprises initially provided the necessary theoretical structure for modular design, nonetheless the appearance of enterprise-level data examining the outputs of innovation has allowed for closer scrutiny of causality to detect its effects (Békés et al., 2013). In general, the competitiveness of enterprises is significantly related to their capacity for innovation and with their ability to satisfy consumer needs at a new, higher level (Czakó and Reszegi, 2010). Innovation significantly increases access to international markets both directly and indirectly in that it helps to achieve possible productivity required to enter such markets. In addition, it also directly affects exports, with various studies indicating that innovative enterprises export more products to more markets and in larger quantities than non-innovative exporting enterprises (Békés et al., 2013). This tendency clearly shows that an economic environment supporting innovation is extremely important in terms of international competitiveness and growth.
