The book's topic fills a gap, as only a small number of studies have documented the development of consecutive interpreting competence longitudinally. Another strength of the volume is that it provides an excellent summary of the existing literature in a well-structured theoretical introduction preceding the presentation of the author's own research. After defining interpreting and its types, the author reviews interpreting models, then attempts to model short-term consecutive interpreting based on the presented simultaneous interpreting models. She then presents the models of interpreting competence and compares them with translator competence models. We can also read about the issue of interpreting expertise, then about interpreter training in general, and specifically about interpreter training in Hungary and Szeged. Finally, the challenges of interpreting research are also presented. The results of the author's own research are presented in an unconventional way: each chapter seems to be an independent study. This is also an advantage of the volume, because the additional theoretical introductions and methodological information specifically help in understanding the subchapters.
