Tripliciter dicere

Szokott és szokatlan fordítási jelenségek

5 Conclusions

Overall, the interviews suggest that public perception depends heavily on visibility conditions. Among respondents in both countries, invisibility is the dominant structural feature; curiosity and appreciation surface when translators become visible, but such moments are rare and unevenly distributed. The French case shows signs of institutionalization of visibility through organisations and collective action, whereas the Hungarian case highlights structural fragility, limited advocacy, and a lack of public platforms for discussing translation. This difference in trajectory helps explain why French participants were more likely to report that “the situation has improved,” whereas Hungarian participants more often described the status quo as persistent and unresolved.
Liu’s (2013) study provides an instructive parallel: visibility is positively correlated with job-related happiness among translators, suggesting that recognition is not merely a matter of cultural prestige but also of occupational well-being. From this perspective, the French interviewees’ comparatively optimistic assessments (“the situation has improved”) can be read as partially reflecting the affective dividends of increased visibility, dividends that remain largely absent in the Hungarian case. These qualitative findings are consistent with the questionnaire results, in which French respondents not only assessed overall visibility more positively than Hungarian respondents, but also identified concrete improvements in public perception over the past decade. By contrast, Hungarian survey participants more frequently emphasized invisibility, lack of recognition, and the absence of supportive institutional infrastructures. Taken together, the two datasets indicate that visibility is not merely an individual experience but a field-level condition shaped by media attention, organisational capacity, and national cultural policy frameworks.

A kötet tizennégy fordítástudományi tanulmányt vonultat föl, négy részben. Az első rész a fordítás és egyetem alcímet viseli, három tanulmánya a fordítás és oktatás témakörét járja körbe két kísérlet és egy utánkövetés formájában. A második rész három fordítástudományi elemzést tartalmaz, melyek közül kettő a műfordítók helyzetét vizsgálja, a harmadik pedig magát a fordítástudomány tárgyát osztályozza. A negyedik rész öt, kiemelkedő jelentőségű, eredetileg angolul írt fordítástudományi munka magyar fordítását tartalmazza, amelyeket a Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem fordító és tolmács mesterszakos hallgatói, illetve fordítástudományi kutatásokat végző doktoranduszai készítettek.
