6 Typical and atypical in certain modes of language mediation

The preceding paragraphs have described some typical and atypical meanings of translation and interpreting in general. This section seeks to demonstrate that the concept of each specific mode of language mediation also has central and peripheral members. For lack of space, the following list is not exhaustive and some examples may only apply to Hungary.
Court interpreting typically combines consecutive, whispering, and sight translation, is carried out by one individual, and is not aided by preparatory materials (submissions, previous trial records). In other words, its mode is never simultaneous, it seldom involves two partners, and rarely relies on prior documents or a briefing by the judge.
Feature film dialogues are typically conveyed via dubbing and subtitling on television and in cinemas, and only atypically via simultaneous interpreting at film festivals, community centres, language institutes, etc.
Revision typically serves to correct and improve the TT, but can atypically switch to supplementary translation, of any omission, or to the retranslation of poorly drafted portions that are deemed beyond repair. Revision is typically comprehensive (covering the whole translation regarding both form and content), bilingual (systematically comparing the ST and the TT), individual, and ex-post. Consequently, it is atypically partial, monolingual (restricted to the TT), collective, and simultaneous (in team projects where multiple revisers start to check their assigned portions while the translators are still busy working on the remaining parts).
Even though simultaneous interpreters often receive some PPTs and handouts before the conference, they typically improvise as they hear the exact wording of most speeches for the first time. However, they can atypically be prepared if given a full transcript in advance or the audiovisual message of a speaker who is going to stay absent.
Simultaneous interpreters typically process auditory input but can atypically work with visual information, too. They may shift to sight translating handouts or slide text, especially in the face of rapid or incoherent speech, or real-time subtitles produced by speech recognition software (CAI). Alternatively, they may simply read out (with minor changes) the translation of any speech made beforehand.
Dubbing and subtitling are typically mutually exclusive but dubbed content may carry a few subtitles of third-language utterances (e.g. Russian in a film dubbed from German to French). Likewise, dubbing and voice-over typically show an either/or relationship but dubbing may atypically include voice-over when it comes to non-dialogue script elements, such as signs, notices, and captions.

A kötet tizennégy fordítástudományi tanulmányt vonultat föl, négy részben. Az első rész a fordítás és egyetem alcímet viseli, három tanulmánya a fordítás és oktatás témakörét járja körbe két kísérlet és egy utánkövetés formájában. A második rész három fordítástudományi elemzést tartalmaz, melyek közül kettő a műfordítók helyzetét vizsgálja, a harmadik pedig magát a fordítástudomány tárgyát osztályozza. A harmadik rész konkrét műfordításokra összpontosít és három esettanulmányt sorakoztat föl: a példák egy olasz történelmi regény angol, német és magyar fordításai, illetve a kanadai-magyar műfordítási áramlatból, valamint egy hazai irodalmi együttműködésből származnak. A negyedik rész öt, kiemelkedő jelentőségű, eredetileg angolul írt fordítástudományi munka magyar fordítását tartalmazza, amelyeket a Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetem fordító és tolmács mesterszakos hallgatói, illetve fordítástudományi kutatásokat végző doktoranduszai készítettek.
