Step 2: Introducing slack variables

So-called slack variables have to be added to transform constraints of an inequality to equality constraints in a linear programming model. As mentioned above, the model has to be in standard form; in this case, a new slack variable will be represented in the transformed model by a new coefficient. To convert inequalities to equalities we have to introduce slack variables in the constraints.
