Discrete Feedback Systems 1.

Classical Control

Un-modelled dynamics

The actual performances of the designed and realised linear or nonlinear control algorithms for mechanical systems can significantly be worsened by (noncontinuous) nonlinearities in mechanical system, e.g., saturation, hysteresis, dead-zone, back-log, etc. In several control application the systems nonlinearity is inaccurately known or unknown at all. If the technique based on linearization is not efficient, the controller has to be modified in order to compensate the effect of nonlinearity. Then the applied technique can be the robust control, when controller is designed such that stability, control accuracy and performance are still guaranteed in case of not exactly known nonlinearity, or adaptive control when controller is extended such that it can estimate the unknown non-linearity or un-known parameter.

The aim of the book is to provide a well-rounded exposure to analysis, control and simulation of discrete-time systems. Theoretical techniques for studying discrete-time linear systems with particular emphasis on the properties and design of sampled data feedback control systems are introduced. This book is intended to be used as a textbook in our MSc and PhD courses. We have tried to balance the broadness and the depth of the material covered in the book. The interested reader is also sent to consult the publications of the references list.
