Discrete Feedback Systems 1.

Classical Control

Bode plots

Up to now we have studied the response of linear systems to step, ramp, parabolic, etc. inputs. We were interested in the transient behaviour as well as the steady-state tracking errors of these systems. In this section we take another viewpoint on these systems by studying their responses to sinusoidal inputs with various frequencies. Recall, that any periodic signals can be decomposed as a sum of sinusoids. Thus, by the superposition principle, the response of the system to a periodic signal can then be found as a sum of the responses to each sinusoids. Moreover, if the transfer function is unknown, we can gain insight into the system experimentally by subjecting the system to sinusoidal inputs of various frequencies and by measuring its responses.

The aim of the book is to provide a well-rounded exposure to analysis, control and simulation of discrete-time systems. Theoretical techniques for studying discrete-time linear systems with particular emphasis on the properties and design of sampled data feedback control systems are introduced. This book is intended to be used as a textbook in our MSc and PhD courses. We have tried to balance the broadness and the depth of the material covered in the book. The interested reader is also sent to consult the publications of the references list.
