Napjainkban világjelenség a klímatechnikai rendszerek robbanásszerű elterjedése. Segítségükkel az épületek helyiségeiben olyan légállapotot hoznak létre, mellyel biztosítható a benntartózkodó személyek kellemes hőérzete, vagy a telepített technológia problémamentes működtetése. A statisztikai adatok azt bizonyítják, hogy hazánkban is egyre szélesebb körben alkalmazzák az otthonok és a középületek aktív hűtését. Ezeknél az épületeknél jelentősen megnő a szellőzés részaránya a teljes energiafelhasználásban. Hasonló problémával kell számolni az utólagosan hőszigeteléssel ellátott épületek üzemeltetésekor is. Ebben az esetben a szellőzés energiaszükséglete relatívan nagyobb hányadot képvisel az épület teljes gépészeti rendszerének energiafelhasználásában. Korábban, illetve napjainkban is élő gyakorlat az, hogy a klímatechnikai rendszerek tervezésére és kivitelezésére kiírt tender pályázatok elbírálásának fő szempontja a beruházási költség. A nemzetközi gyakorlatban egyre nagyobb teret hódít az energiatakarékos üzemvitel és a minőségbiztosítás. Itt kapcsolódik ehhez a témakörhöz ez a könyv, amelyben általánosított, a gyakorlatban előforduló lehetséges esetekre jól és hatékonyan alkalmazható módszereket mutat be a klímatechnikai rendszerek energiatudatos méretezéséhez és tervezéséhez.
