We conducted an experiment focusing on temporal features and disfluencies in the read aloud speech of mildly intellectually disabled individuals. We analyzed articulation rate and speaking rate, as well as disfluencies and reading errors, in a short dialogue read aloud by participants three times. The results were compared to those of an age- and sex-matched control group. The findings show that in all three instances of reading, the target group exhibited lower rates of speaking and articulation compared to the control group. At the same time, speaking and articulation rate gradually increased between the first and the third sample of both male and female members of the target group. When it comes to hesitations (pause, restart, and repetition) and repairs (insertion, deletion, substitution, and sequence error), their overall number gradually decreased in the mildly intellectually disabled group from the first sample to the third, whereas the control group exhibited considerably fewer instances of errors, and there was no observable tendency between samples in this regard. In the target group, there was moderate negative correlation between speaking rate and the number of errors.
