Numerical solution methods

In the following, we will show two solution methods. We show the applicability of both methods to the solution of a simple 1D, nonlinear algebraic equation; and then how they can be applied to the modelling of large hydraulic systems. The example nonlinear equation used later should be similar to the branch equations in that it should include the quantity and absolute value and second power of the quantity sought:
