Fluid Flow Systems

Equation for open-channel flow

To calculate the shape of the surface along the channel, the Bernoulli equation is used on the surface of the channel. (This expresses the conservation of energy for us: the energy stored in the fluid at the beginning of the pipe can be composed anywhere along the pipe from the sum of the energy and the friction loss up to that point.)
