Examples for the wave speed
In practice, the order of magnitude of the water hammer wave speed ranges from 100 to 1400 m/s, and the flow velocity is around 1 to 10 m/s. Replacing a long steel pipe with a PE pipe in a pipeline system can also affect transient phenomena by reducing the time constant of the system.

This university textbook is the joint work of the colleagues of the Department of Hydrodynamic Systems, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
