The definitions of cohesion and the typologies of cohesive devices were developed for the English language and for “independent texts”, in other words, not for translated target language texts (Károly, 2014, p. 74). When examining grammatical cohesive devices in Hungarian target language texts consecutively interpreted from English, one faces two challenges. First, cohesive devices are different in different languages, in this case in English and in Hungarian. Second, cohesive devices were originally described for written texts, whereas interpreted target language texts are oral texts, produced on the spot, are the first and final version of the target language text, in other words, there is no chance for revision, and often it is not possible to ask for the repetition of the source language text.
