Anxiety, Coping, and Flow

Empirical studies in interactional perspective


Method

To collect a representative sample of anxiety provoking situations pre- to postadolescent pupils were requested to provide three descriptions of common everyday situations that first came to their mind as threatening. Subsequently for each situation they explained why they felt anxious. They also rated the degree of experienced intensity often anxiety reactions on a five-point scale ranging from 1 (not at all) to 5 (very much) in connection with each situation. The anxiety reaction scale consisted of the following items: 1) Become nervous, 2) Get worried, 3) Get feelings of insecurity, 4) Get depressed, 5) Get feelings of panic, 6) Hands begin to shake, 7) Swallowing difficulties, 8) Heart beats faster, 9) Get in a sweat, 10) Get stomach trouble.
