Anxiety, Coping, and Flow

Empirical studies in interactional perspective

Results and Discussion

In research on anxiety where girls and boys have reported their own reactions to hypothetical situations or to generalized statements about anxiety-related behavior, very little attention has been paid to the fact that different situational characteristics may produce varying sizes of sex differences, as was the case in this study. Too often sex differences in profiles across situations and types of situations have been neglected. Researchers have taken for granted that girls score higher, without little analysis of the specific character of the situational conditions under which behavior has been observed.
